galaxysiiiallThanks to the leaked screen shots, it appears that Samsung is in the testing phase of Android’s 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system for the popular Galaxy S III smartphone. The Android firmware was shown running on the Galaxy S III on several screen shots which have been making their way around the smartphone Blogosphere. The popular Galaxy S III was released in late May of 2012, and immediately sold 20 million units its first 100 days of launch. The phone tabulated 50 million global sales by March of this year, and recently passed the 60 million unit mark as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $10.99.

Those are massive numbers for any smartphone, and it appears the combination of slim and light form factor, large high-resolution display and powerful hardware package continues to be a popular choice in the mobile marketplace. The 16 GB Galaxy S III was recently spotted in a special bright purple color running just one penny on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online. That phone is also offered in standard colors at the same price on the Sprint 4G LTE network, and is also available in a 32 GB model.

The slim smartphone measures 8.6 mm (0.34 inches) in thickness, with the wafer thin Galaxy S III weighing just 133 g (4.70 ounces). Offering a large 4.80 inch Super AMOLED display which accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures, the Galaxy S III receives a True HD designation with a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Pixel density is high at 306 pixels per inch, with the display protected against your everyday abuse by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

Samsung has included special light and proximity sensors to automate display dimming and brightness adjustment, and they both help the 2,100 mA battery on the phone squeeze every bit of juice out of a full battery charge. 15.0 hours of talk time is possible, and the phone is powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. That processor is part of a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip, and graphics is handled by an Adreno 225 GPU.

The Galaxy S III offers a generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory, and you can add to the 16 GB of built-in storage space via the onboard microSD slot which accepts cards up to 64 GB in size. YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, Twitter and other applications have been pre-installed, and the phone delivers both a front facing chat cam with video call support, and a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. The Galaxy S III was one of the first handsets to deliver the technology which provides simultaneous HD video and image recording. An extensive special effects package is also on board, and video is recorded in 1,080P HD resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $10.99.
