galaxysiiiallMost cell phones have long since passed the point of respectability well before they reach their one year anniversary. Someone forgot to tell that to the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone. Recently reaching its one year anniversary in the United States, the device still manages to be a bestseller in the mobile handset marketplace. The device delivered the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out-of-the-box when it launched last June, but has long since been upgraded to the Jelly Bean OS.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

Currently retailing for one penny on contract in the 16 GB version, the device is the third in a Galaxy S lineup which has been incredibly successful for Samsung. Much as Apple has done with their iPhone, Samsung has created device loyalty in the Galaxy S line, while also appealing to new smartphone shoppers who have never owned one of the devices before. Samsung was uncertain if the Galaxy S III would follow in the successful footsteps of the award-winning and bestselling Galaxy S II, but that is exactly what it has done.

Even after the release of the powerful, big-screen Galaxy S4 earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy S III continues to be a popular choice among smartphone shoppers as it recently passed 50 million global units sold. A one penny price tag does nothing to hurt the appeal of the handset, which arrives in a slim and light form factor. The device measures a scant 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) in profile, and weighs just 4.70 ounces. The display is large at 4.80 inches and effectively handles whatever you can throw at it without scratching, thanks to a second generation layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.

The True HD display delivers 720 by 1,280 pixels, with more than 16 million colors spread across the screen at the rate of 306 color pixels over each inch of display space. The Super AMOLED screen accepts typical capacitive, multitouch gestures, and automates features like display dimming and brightness adjustment with special light and proximity sensors. The battery conserving sensors help the device deliver up to 15.0 hours of talk time from a full charge, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip powers the Galaxy S III handset.

The Galaxy S III runs on a dual core 1.5 GHz central processor, leaving the graphics processing of to an Adreno 225 GPU. A generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is a storage-expanding microSD slot, and the phone is also available in a 32 GB model. Video capture is present at 1,080P HD resolution, as is simultaneous HD video and image capture. An extensive customization and special effects package enhances the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and a front facing chat cam allows you to video chat, Skype and call.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
