Samsung Galaxy S II:  The Galaxy line of smartphones is popular enough to cause plenty of rumors and consternation over predicted release dates that come and go without the arrival of the new highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II. First rumored from a very reputable source to be a “summer” phone, the release date was finally “leaked” by AT&T sources to be late July, then mid August, and finally August 28.

The August 28 information appears to be concerning the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S II in retail and virtual stores, and not an actual launch date, with a launch announcement date at a media-frenzied Samsung and AT&T special event on August 29.

Mobile industry bigwigs, Samsung and AT&T retail partners and other dignitaries have received cryptic e-mail notification advising them they have been invited to a “special media event” to take place in New York on August 29, with doors opening at 6 PM. I’ll give you dollars to doughnuts Samsung is going to release launch date information about the roll-out of the Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T at this time.

The graphics in the e-mail reportedly sports a large Roman numeral “II” at the bottom, leaving no doubt as to the intent of Samsung and the focal point of the event. The blogosphere has been alive with Galaxy fans awaiting the arrival of this new Gingerbread smartphone. While this still doesn’t answer the question concerning the actual availability date for smartphone shoppers to get their hands on this new Samsung and AT&T product, we do know a good deal about the specifications of the Galaxy S II.

With so many Android smartphones released with a camera that records in 720p high resolution, the fact that Samsung is employing an 8 megapixel rear facing camera that records in true 1080p high def certainly has those video production lovers even more anxious for its arrival.

Samsung’s beautiful Super AMOLED Plus display technology graces the 4.3 inch screen, and 480 x 800 resolution with 16 million color support join what truly appears to be one of the nicer displays in all smartphone technology. A 1.2 GHz dual core processor is also on board, which means multimedia and multitasking smartphone lovers will be pleased with the speed and performance, as well is the big bright display. For now the waiting game continues, but at least we are only one week away from knowing exactly when we will get the new Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T in our hands.
