gs4bLast year the Samsung Galaxy S III made its impressive debut in London in May, and it appears that it’s successor will launch in New York next month. Several online sources have confirmed March 14 as the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch date, at a New York event held specifically by Samsung. This company-specific announcement of a smartphone debut was made popular by Apple, and is a great way to ensure all the focus is put on a specific device, and not spread amongst many competitors at a crowded consumer electronics expo.

The popular Samsung Galaxy S III is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $9.99.

The Mobile World Congress kicks off the last week in February in Barcelona, Spain, and is one of the most important and most attended mobile consumer-electronics events of the entire year. While many smartphone manufacturers are set to make major announcements and debuts at the event, Samsung has chosen to corner the media spotlight on March 14 with a company specific announcement and launch of the next smartphone in what has been a very successful line.

The Samsung Galaxy S III has sold more than 50 million units, eclipsing the more than 40 million Galaxy S II smartphones which have sold globally. That is impressive because the Galaxy S II has been for sale for almost two years, with the Galaxy S III offered for just a fraction of that time. The actual name of the next Galaxy S handset has not been confirmed, with rumors of both Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S IV persistent.

Just one of many sources proclaiming the March 14 Samsung announcement is Eldar Murtazin. He is the Russian founder of the Mobile-Reviews website, and has become known for his ability to scoop reliable inside information in the mobile marketplace ahead of just about anyone else. Murtazin recently tweeted that the Galaxy S4 announcement would hit on March 14, also noting that Samsung probably timed this debut to have a negative impact on sales of the upcoming HTC One, widely rumored to be launched soon.

The SamMobile website has also confirmed that the Samsung March 14 event was definitely tied to the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S4, and would be held in New York. If you have seen any of the “leaked” photos purported to be of the Galaxy S4 smartphone, Samsung sources recently told The Verge that their upcoming handset would look very little like those images. That same unnamed source also announced that several smartphone advances would provide a “leap in cool new features” from the Galaxy S III to the next flagship that will be bigger than the leap from the S II to the S III.

You can purchase the Galaxy S III at a discounted price tag now starting at $9.99.
