For a handset that was deemed too big by many knowledgeable industry analysts, the Samsung Galaxy Note Android smartphone/tablet has been globally successful, selling well over 10 million units its first five months of availability. But smartphone shoppers around the world have evidently enjoyed owning the largest display offered on a smartphone which approaches the size of the screen on a 7 inch tablet, while still having a device which is small enough to hold in one hand and be navigated with the other. The Galaxy Note 4G also delivers tabletlike features which include native handwriting recognition, as well as 4G LTE connectivity.
The Samsung Galaxy Note is on sale now starting at $199.99.
The handset arrived exclusive to the 4G LTE wireless network of AT&T in the United States on February 7 of this year, and measures 5.78 x 3.27 x 0.38 inches (147 x 83 x 10 mm), weighing 6.28 ounces (178 g). The 5.30 inch touch screen display is protected by a scratch resistant and glare reducing layer of Corning Gorilla Glass, and delivers a high-end resolution of 800 x 1,280 pixels at 285 pixels per inch. That Super AMOLED screen creates visual displays using more than 16 million colors, and standard light and proximity sensors are built-in to offer auto brightness adjustment and conservation of battery life.
As a result, the 2,500 mA extended life battery on board the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G delivers roughly 25% better performance than the standard 4G cell, offering 10.00 hours of talk time from a single charge. Standby time runs roughly 10.4 days, and the handset is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon microchip package. At the core of that chip set is a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU, and a separate Adreno 220 GPU exclusively focuses on graphics processing. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board as is 16 GB of built-in, user accessible data storage. A microSD slot is provided for storage expansion.
In the camera combo, a 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front) joins an 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear). That rear snapper comes equipped with an LED flash and f2.6 lens, and delivers autofocus, smile detection, multishot mode, panorama mode and preloaded scenes in its special effects package. Video capture is provided at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD), and the chat cam offers video call support. The built-in music player supports all major audio file formats, and Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter applications have been pre-installed.
