nokia-normandyMost of the people in the mobile world think about Windows Phone when they hear the word Nokia, but that is about to change according to some new information about a handset the company is hoping to release soon that is powered by the Android operating system.  A new image, one that was posted via a reliable Twitter account, shows the Nokia Normandy.  The new, low cost Android powered Nokia phone was rumored a few months ago and this might be the first image that it appeared in.  The Android version will be customized, much like Amazon did with the Kindle series.

In the image, the Nokia handset looks to be coming in more than one color, in fact, it will be coming in six colors if the image is true.  Those colors include black, green, white, yellow, blue and red.  The red color was the first that the handset was rumored to be coming in, so the other colors are news to many.  The image clearly shows the device that has Nokia branding on it and a lone “back button” on the bottom of the device’s display.  The camera can be seen on the back side of the device which is located right in the center.

According to reports, the Nokia Normandy will be powered by Android and will be affordable like the Asha line of Nokia phones, only this one will be able to run full smartphone apps.  Those in the supply chain for the device claim that the Normandy will likely arrive in 2014, but it is not clear whether or not the device will ever be available in a Microsoft Store, especially since Microsoft is about to purchase Nokia’s Devices and Services division if the deal goes through next year.

Ever since Nokia has released its first in the long line of Lumia series of smartphones, many on the Android side of things wished that the company would go ahead and make a full Android powered Nokia device and that looks like it is about to become reality.  As a low end product, it might not get all the attention that Nokia would hope for, but there is always a few people looking to upgrade to their first device without having to spend an arm and a leg to get one on a two-year contract.
