The Nokia Lumia 822 was officially announced on October 29, and the handset hit the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States on November 19. With a fast dual core CPU, 4G LTE speeds and the Windows 8 Phone OS, the handset syncs perfectly with your Xbox video game console, as well as any Microsoft powered desktop, mobile or Tablet PC. The handset also offers a large, high resolution display, high res video capture, Near Field Communications (NFC) connectivity and Nokia’s Drive+ turn-by-turn navigation with offline maps.

Also included in the Lumia 822 are Nokia’s City Lens and Music apps, the Internet Explorer 10 web browser, Facebook, YouTube (upload), Flickr, Picasa and Twitter applications. The handset is a little larger and thicker than the typical smartphone at 5.03 x 2.69 x 0.44 inches (127.8 x 68.4 x 11.2 mm), weighing 4.99 ounces (142 g). The built-in music player supports all major audio file formats, can filter your music by album, artist and play lists, and delivers album art cover and background playback.

With the largest display Nokia has made for a 4G smartphone at 4.3 inches, the Lumia 822 Windows Phone delivers more than 16 million unique colors to its AMOLED display, at a rate of 217 pixels every inch. That gives that display an overall resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, with standard light and proximity sensors built-in. A scratch resistant layer of glass provides chip and scratch protection, and the 1,800 mA battery on board the Lumia 822 provides 10.3 hours of talk time from a single battery charge, above average for a 4G handset.

The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 chip suite that is centered around a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU, and a separate Adreno 225 GPU focuses exclusively on processing your graphics requests. 16 GB of data storage is built-in, and memory can be added in the form of microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 64 GB in size. The handset also contains 1.0 GB of RAM system memory.

A calendar, alarm, document viewer (Office 2013, Office 2007, Office 2003, PDF) and calculator are present in the handset’s productivity suite, and the camera combo on the Nokia Lumia 822 Windows Phone 8 is comprised of an 8.0 MP camcorder and VGA quality chat cam. The camcorder can record video at a rate of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD resolution) and 30 frames per second, and delivers auto focus, touch to focus, exposure compensation, white balance presets and Geo tagging, and video calls are supported by the front facing chat cam.
