The Lumia 920, another smartphone released under the partnership of Microsoft and Nokia has been declared “a winner” in initial reports and opinions. Having being branded the company’s flagship phone already, the phone will run on the highly anticipated Windows 8 platform. Matt Warman , a consumer technology editor at The Verge affirmed that The Lumia 920 was one of the best phones the company has ever made.

The making of the Lumia 920 was praiseworthy to say the least. The R&D team at has put the phone through several physical tests, including splashing it, dropping it and even testing the surface with fluids like lotion to see how the external colour reacts to it. Given the intensity of these tests it is clear that the phone can resist much more than a mere knock.

Nokia has decided to adopt a unibody design for the 920. The phone has a scratch resistant polycarbonate body that also enhances antenna performance. The phone’s bright colours are also known to fade slower over time.

The 920 sports a display resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels, which also received several positive replies form critics. To sum up the display, one could say the colours were vivid and the blacks were a little inky. Looking under the hood, we find that the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor, which sports a dual core to carry out its processing capabilities. A fourth generation S4 processor makes this is another first for Microsoft’s new platform. There have been any crashes or problems that have been reported just yet. Also, Nokia has finally decided to improve the Hardware underlying the phone, a feature that was absent in the phones prior to this release. This will surely benefit both the platform and the company sales as well.

The only area where the phone looses out is the number of apps on the platform. However this is expected to improve once Windows 8 releases and third party developers begin to take interest in the platform. At the end of the day, both critics and fans were happy with the phone’s enhancements in Hardware. However, it remains to be seen is whether the phone will be able to influence consumers on other platforms to shift to the Windows 8 platform.

  1. Lumia 920 PPI = 332, iPhone 4S PPI = 326. So the Lumia has more pixels per inch, not vice versa as stated in the article.

  2. PPI not as good as Apple? They are even better and come from the same factory. Together with the ClearBlack technology that brings a great screen.
