After the Samsung Galaxy S III, one of the more highly-anticipated handsets in the smartphone competition could be the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the second generation phablet from the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer. This did not come as a surprise at all given the fact that the phablet boasts of an impressive resume and brings to the table an even more impressive feature set -  a luxury that the original Samsung Galaxy Note did not enjoy because of doubts about its ability to make a mark in the market when it was released late last year.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, its manufacturer unveiled the second generation phablet during the last parts of August and during the announcement, Samsung made a big deal regarding the multi-window feature of the phablet. Essentially, this feature enables the Samsung Galaxy Note II to run multiple apps in split-screen mode which is basically similar to the Video Popup Play on the Samsung Galaxy S III. Although the feature wasn’t ready yet when the Samsung Galaxy Note II was showcased at IFA, the manufacturer recently released an official preview video showing the phablet with its multi-window feature in play.

However, reports are coming in that some early adopters of the Samsung Galaxy Note II do not have this particular feature available on their devices. This feature by the way can be activated by long-pressing the handset’s back key  but is apparently not working on certain devices. According to reports, the culprit for the missing feature on the Samsung Galaxy Note II is an older firmware version running on these devices.

So, if after checking the software version of your Samsung Galaxy Note II via Settings > About device and you find that it is running version N7100XXALIE, don’t expect to make use of the multi-window feature on your phablet as this is the older firmware version responsible for the missing feature. But if your device is on the N7100XXALIH version, this feature is available and should work as expected.

No reason was given regarding the missing feature but we are pretty sure that Samsung will rollout a software update in the future to make this feature available on the said affected devices. No comment yet coming from Samsung regarding this but we’ll be sure to let you know as more details become available.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the handset already runs Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for its operating system and this is powered by its Exynos 4412 Quad chipset. This SoC brings a quad-core 1.6 GHz Arm Cortex-A9 processor and 2GB of RAM to the handset in addition to the support it packs for the LTE networks of the major carriers in US shores. The device is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB in terms of onboard storage with memory expansion made possible through the handset’s microSD slot. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Note II sports a massive 5.5-inch SuperAMOELD HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.9MP snapper.
