gs3leakedBack in the day, the Samsung Galaxy S III was one of the most popular devices in the smartphone market. This was back in 2012 when the handset was still the flagship device of the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer. Fast forward to today, the Samsung Galaxy S III is no longer as hot as it used to be because its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S IV, now has the attention of the smartphone-buying public. Despite that, the once Samsung flagship is still capable enough to battle it out with the new breed of smartphones that recently made it to the shelves.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

In fact, the Samsung Galaxy S III is set to receive the new features found in its successor via the Android 4.2.2 update which every user of the handset is waiting for. Rumors had it back then that the said Android refresh is set to land on the Samsung Galaxy S III this July but Samsung is still keeping mum about the topic. Although a test build of Android 4.2.2 already leaked for the handset a couple of months back, our sources indicate that the Android 4.2.2 update will be delayed because the manufacturer still has to do a lot of testing on the new version of TouchWiz on the handset first.

With Android 4.3 Jelly Bean about to get unveiled in just a couple of days (hopefully), it might already be too late for Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean to make its way to certain devices. In fact, word on the street is that the Samsung Galaxy S III might jump straight to Android 4.3 and skip Android 4.2 altogether. There were a lot of reports about this last week with not only the Samsung Galaxy S III making the jump to Android 4.3 but the Samsung Galaxy Note II as well.

In line with this, one of our sources sent us a mug shot of the Samsung Galaxy S III running a test version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. According to our source, the image of the handset came from somebody working for Samsung India’s R&D department where they have one team already working on the next Android build for the once flagship device. Though we have to receive confirmation from Samsung about the matter, we will surely keep you in the loop once more details become available.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S III, the handset is still very impressive despite its slightly aging status. Running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for its operating system, the handset relies on its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset to power its operation while a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 2GB of RAM work together in keeping the performance of the handset at peak levels. The handset is available in a 16GB and a 32GB edition in terms of storage capacity but if this is not enough for your needs, you have the option of having this expanded using its microSD card slot. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S III sports a 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and front 1.9MP snapper.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Black can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
