droidultraThe Motorola Droid Ultra is a 4G LTE smartphone running on Verizon. The handset hit the United States mobile marketplace in late August, and has been spotted at select online retailers with a $149 on contract price tag. In New York City in July, the Droid Ultra made its red carpet press debut, delivering what Motorola is calling the X8 Mobile Computing System. This is a specially customized 8 core package which is uniquely arranged to maximize battery power by spreading out the responsibility of low energy and standard operating tasks across multiple cores.

The Motorola Droid Ultra can be purchased at select online retailers starting at $149.99, which is a savings of up to $50 over carrier prices.

Or you can purchase directly from Verizon Wireless starting at $199.99.

But instead of thinking of an eight core central processor, think of eight separate cores in the handset’s hardware package. They consist of a speedy dual core processor which benefits from a quad core graphics processor that handles some everyday tasks. Then there are also standalone cores which handle natural language processing and computing. These two individual cores also handle low energy tasks, meaning that the central processor runs as infrequently as possible, and focuses on your major requests and operations.

And the natural language processing core on the Motorola Droid Ultra 4G also delivers what Motorola is calling a “touchless control.” Most smartphones today offer some form of hands-free voice control, and that is basically what this is. However, the chip package on board the Droid Ultra is designed in a way to keep your handset “always on”, meaning that your vocal commands are heard by the Droid Ultra even when it is in hibernation or sleep mode.

The Droid Ultra accompanies the Droid Mini and the Droid Maxx smartphones in the latest Motorola lineup, and all three of those handsets deliver 720P HD displays, 2.0 GB of RAM memory and 10.0 megapixel rear cameras. If you think of the ultra in the handset’s name as applying to some physical characteristic of the phone, you would be correct. The Droid Ultra is one of the skinniest phones ever designed, taking us back to the original days of the Droid Razr 4G and its razor-thin profile.

The phone measures just 0.28 inches (7.18 mm) in profile, weighing just 4.83 ounces (137 g), a very light weight for a 5 incher. Kevlar construction makes the Droid Ultra durable, and the rear facing 10.0 megapixel camera comes equipped with a quick capture option. Android’s 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system is on board, and the large 5.0 inch display offers a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Battery power is a generous 28.0 hours from a single charge, and 16.0 GB of built-in storage is present, with a front facing 2.0 chat cam providing video call support.

You can purchase the Motorola Droid Ultra 4G for a discounted price tag starting at $149.99.

Or you can purchase directly from Verizon Wireless starting at $199.99.
