droidrazrmaxxhdOur smartphones these days do a lot of things. They allow us to place and receive calls without being tethered to a specific location, let us wirelessly surf the web, text, download applications and handle a myriad of other tasks. And the more complex our phones become, the more juice they draw. The Droid Razr MAXX HD has what is probably the best possible smartphone battery performance package across-the-board. And that all day battery power and portability has pushed the handset to the top of the Amazon smartphone bestseller list.

While the Amazon bestseller list for smartphones does change frequently, the Droid Razr MAXX HD has been a perennial Top 10 smartphone on Amazon’s respected measure of smartphone popularity since it debuted. Currently the Droid Razr MAXX HD is the number two best-selling phone in the entire Amazon marketplace, sitting behind the red-hot Samsung Galaxy S III. Amazon is one of the largest online retailers of smartphones on the World Wide Web, and the handset is currently offered for around $99 on contract in the Amazon Wireless store.

The Droid Razr MAXX HD launched on October 18 on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States. That phone is offered in either black or white, and delivers NFC wireless support out-of-the-box. At the end of 2012 the Droid Razr MAXX HD received an upgrade to the Jelly Bean operating system, and even though the handset offers an extended life 3,300 mA battery, it is still slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm).

Water resistant splash protection coats the interior and exterior of the Droid Razr Maxx HD handset, with durable DuPont Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum framing surrounding the display. That display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass, and runs 4.70 inches. Pixel density is high, at 312 pixels per inch, and overall display resolution is 720 x 1,280 pixels. More than 16 million colors are used to render visuals, and the touchscreen supports the industry standard multitouch, capacitive gestures.

Talk time is extreme at 21.0 hours from a single charge, 8.0 hours of web surfing is also capable, and the handset provides a full 27.0 hours of streaming music over Verizon’s LTE network. The system chip on board is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 model, built around a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. 32 GB of data storage are built-in, as is 1.0 GB of RAM memory. A microSD slot allows you to access external memory cards up to 32 GB in size, and the handset offers a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, capable of 1,080P HD resolution video capture.
