droidrazrmaxxThe Motorola Droid Razr 4G was a groundbreaking smartphone. It delivered a nearly invisible profile, certainly earning its “razor” name. But with a wafer thin smartphone comes less than desirable battery performance, and the Droid Razr MAXX 4G was designed to solve that problem. The handset is still exceptionally thin (0.35 inches or 8.99 mm), but battery life and storage are excellent, and the handset offers simultaneous voice and data capabilities on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

Recently the handset received a substantial price reduction, and is currently sporting a one penny on contract price tag at select online retailers. Offering splash resistance thanks to a special nanocoating, even the sensitive electrical boards inside are protected against incidental liquid contact. A durable DuPont Kevlar back plate joins aircraft grade aluminum framing around the display, which offers scratch resistance thanks to a layer of Gorilla Glass.

Simultaneous voice and data access means you can browse the web, download an application or check directions on Google Maps without having to interrupt a voice call. Droid Razr MAXX owners have been wondering when they were going to get upgraded to the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system, and it seems that time has finally arrived. The new Jelly Bean operating system is version 4.1.2, and delivers some minor bug fixes as well as an improved Google Now, and a much smoother and more fluid user interface.

The large 4.30 inch Super AMOLED Advanced screen runs a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, delivered at a better than average rate of 256 pixels per inch. The standard capacitive, multitouch gestures are employed for device navigation, and the built-in light and proximity sensors help enhance battery performance. A full 21.5 hours of talk time is provided from a full battery charge, and the extended life 3,300 mA battery on board the handset also offers nearly 16 days of standby battery power.

A Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip set powers the device, and the Droid Razr MAXX 4G hardware package is centered around a 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor. Handling all graphics processing is a PowerVR SGX540 chip, and video out is provided by both microHDMI and DLNA connectivity options. RAM system memory runs 1.0 GB, and the Droid Razr MAXX offers 16 GB of built-in storage as well as a removable 16 GB microSD card. The 8.0 megapixel camera on the back of the handset is capable of 1,080P HD video recording, and the front facing chat cam can also be used to place and receive video calls.
