The Motorola Droid Razr M 4G Android smartphone has finally received an update to the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 operating system. One of only a handful of smartphones with the latest Android OS, the Droid Razr M adds Near Field Communications (NFC) support to several popular features that the Motorola Droid Razr 4G offers, and does so with a smaller body and bargain bin retail price tag. The handset also ramps up battery performance from the Droid Razr 4G, almost equaling the 4G best talk time of the Droid Razr MAXX 4G.

The Motorola Droid Razr M is on sale at a reduced price at select online retailers now starting at 49.99.

Offered in black or white and released September 10 in the United States, the handset runs on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network there. Measuring 4.82 x 2.40 x 0.33 inches (122.5 x 60.9 x 8.3 mm) in size, and weighing 4.44 ounces (116 g), the handset is smaller and lighter than most 4G LTE equipped smartphones. Yet the Droid Razr M 4G still offers a large 4.3 inch display. The large display is possible because Motorola designers stretched that screen from edge to edge on the handset, allowing for a smaller physical body.

Display resolution runs 540 x 960 pixels, delivered at an above average 256 pixels per inch. That Super AMOLED Advanced screen uses more than 16 million individual colors to render visual displays, and standard multitouch, capacitive gestures are used for device navigation. A light sensor automatically dims the display when the device is lifted to your head to make or receive a voice call, thereby helping the 2,000 mA battery on board deliver all day performance.

DLNA video out is present, and the handset has a protective Gorilla Glass screen overlay. With 20.00 hours of talk time provided from a single charge, more than double the average for a 4G LTE smartphone, the Droid Razr M offers better talk time than virtually every other 4G smartphone. The handset contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip package, which is centered around a 1.5 GHz Krait CPU. An Adreno 225GPU is also on board, as is 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and 8.0 GB and storage.

A microSD slot is available for storage expansion, and the 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. That camera delivers autofocus, touch to focus, face detection and image stabilization features, and is joined in the camera combo by a front facing VGA quality chat cam. The handset comes with a built-in music player and on board YouTube player, and a Picasa application has been pre-installed.
