droidminiofficialSuper-thin and lightweight, the powerful, long running but compact Motorola Droid Mini 4G runs on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States. A recent price check revealed the handset selling for just $49 on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online, and the phone has been available in the United States since late August of this year. Debuted at New York in a special press event alongside its siblings the Motorola Droid MAXX and Droid Ultra, the Droid Mini will appeal to those smartphone shoppers looking for a more compact and lightweight device without sacrificing features and a large, high-resolution display.

The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at $44.99, saving you up to $55 over carrier prices.

The Motorola silicon powering the handset is what that manufacturer is calling their X8 Mobile Computing System. By uniquely spreading low-draw and everyday operations across eight different processing cores, the handset uses less battery juice than the typical smartphone, and this also allows the dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro central processor to handle only the most important operations and processes. That CPU has been clocked at a speedy 1.7 GHz, and joins a powerful quad core graphics processor, stand-alone language processor and contextual computing processing core in the handset’s hardware package.

The Motorola Droid Mini 4G delivers Android’s Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system out-of-the-box, and is slated for an upgrade to the Android 4.3 OS soon. Overall dimensions run 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm), and weight is a paltry 4.59 ounces (130 g). Extremely small and light considering it delivers a large 4.30 inch True HD display and exceptional run time, the Motorola Droid Mini is also ensconced in a durable DuPont Kevlar fiber body. The large touchscreen delivers a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels, with the LCD display boasting 342 color pixels per inch.

A full battery charge of the 2,000 mA cell on board the Droid Mini delivers a more than generous 28.0 hours of talk time, more than two times the industry average. A standby battery charge lasts approximately 2 weeks, and the phone can also charge wirelessly. 16 GB of built-in data storage is present, as is 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. Motorola has boosted the camera offering from previous Droid models, giving the Motorola Droid Mini 4G a rear facing 10.0 megapixel snapper with a convenient quick capture mode which can be accessed by simply twisting your wrist twice.

That rear shooter is capable of recording video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution), and joins a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam in the handset’s camera combo. NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity options are delivered, and the Motorola Droid Mini 4G also offers a built-in music player which supports all major file formats. YouTube and Picasa applications are on board, and you can use your Motorola Droid Mini as a wireless Wi-Fi hub for multiple devices.

The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $44.99.
