ipadiarThe new iPad Air is about to be released by Apple and is likely to break records in the sales department.  A new test is about to boost those sales without any doubt once consumers get a look at the fact that the new iPad Air is about double the iPad 4 in the performance department.  Benchmarks have been posted online and confirm what Apple said about the new device being two times faster than the iPad 4 from last year.  The benchmarks are posted via Primal Labs and clearly show the improvement.

The iPad Air tested with a single core showed a result of 1465, while the multi-core testing gave the iPad Air a result of 2643.  The benchmarks also revealed how much faster the iPad Air is than the much older iPad 2.  The new 64-bit A7 processor found inside the iPad Air offers performance that is five times faster than the iPad 2, which came with the much slower A5 processor.  The Geekbench tests focus the results during real world scenarios so they are never going to tell the whole story.  Users might not see apps load exactly two times faster, but there will be a noticeable performance improvement over the older iPad 4.

The iPad Air test also reveals that the processor is clocked at 1.4GHz, which is about 100MHz faster than the iPhone 5S chip, giving the new iPad an 80 percent increase in speed over the fourth generation iPad.  Even though the iPad 2 is that much slower, it comes as a surprise that Apple would even consider selling it, but that just proves how well the products that Apple develops sell over the years.  Most of the time, smartphones, phablets and tablets are discontinued as a new model comes in, but Apple keeps certain devices around longer giving consumers the chance to experience them even if they cannot afford the newest model.

The iPad 2 is still listed at $400, which seems very high for an older device, but school districts are picking them up left and right in order to give to students in the classroom.  Spending that much money makes you wonder why consumers or businesses just don’t spend the extra money and get the latest and greatest model with boosted performance.  The iPad Air is expected to go on sale on November 1st for $499.
