Google released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year and manufacturers since then have started pushing out the update to the devices in their respective lineups. Sad to say, the number of handsets receiving the Android 4.0 refresh isn’t that impressive so to speak. This is due to the fact that manufacturers tend to get into the habit of giving their high-end smartphones first dibs on the Ice Cream Sandwich update while those aging devices get left out in the cold.

However, the announcement of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean a couple of days ago seemed to be a wake-up call to manufacturers because we saw the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update get unleashed for several devices in the span of just a week. The latest devices to have gotten the ICS update are the Motorola Droid Razr, Motorola Droid Razr Maxx and the Sony Xperia Mini. In addition to that, the HTC Incredible S also got its tasty treat of Ice Cream Sandwich recently.

Looking back, HTC confirmed as early as March that the slightly aging handset will also get its Android 4.0 refresh but there was no specific date announced at that time. Luckily, users of the HTC Incredible S can now have the chance to upgrade the operating system of their handsets to ICS because HTC has finally managed to start rolling out the Android 4.0 refresh for the smartphone. As usual, the update is being unleashed via the usual OTA manner so a notification should come up on your HTC Incredible S to let you know of the update’s availability. If the said notification is nowhere to be found, then you always have the option to manually check for the update and get lucky.

The whole Android 4.0 refresh for the HTC Incredible S is said to weigh in at approximately 250 MB. Aside from cranking up the operating system of your device to Android 4.0.4, it will also update the user interface of the handset to HTC Sense 3.6, the UI overlay designed for older HTC handsets and a streamlined version of the Sense 4.0 UI found in the HTC One series of smartphones. At this point, it is still unclear though if the HTC Droid Incredible 2, the CDMA version of the HTC Incredible S released by Verizon, will also be getting its ICs update for that matter.

As for the HTC Incredible S, the handset is obviously no longer a spring chicken it still packs quite an impressive specs sheet. Its circuitry revolves around a QualComm MSM8255 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC brings to the handset a Scorpion processor clocked at 1 GHz and 768 MB of RAM. The storage space of the handset comes up to 1.1 GB but a microSD slot in its chassis gives the user of the handset the option to expand its internal storage. Its display on the other hand is a 4.0-inch SuperLCD panel with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration gives the HTC Incredible S a rear 8MP shooter and front 1.3MP webcam for video calls and self-portraits.
