HTC Windows Phone 8X Reviewed

With unique color options, the Windows Phone 8 OS, Beats Audio package and 720p resolution display, the HTC Windows Phone 8X launched on the AT&T 4G HSPA+ network on November 10. It is also currently on sale for $0.01 on contract during the Amazon Wireless holiday sale in the 8 GB version. AT&T explains that their 4G network flies speedily along at up to 4 times the speeds obtained on their previous 3G system. AT&T’s mobile hotspot service is also built-in, allowing the HTC Windows Phone 8X to act as a central a wireless hub for multiple devices, and a 16 GB model id also offered.

The handset is also a global phone and dual-mode mobile handset which can work on any UMTS or GSM network in the world. Hitting the smartphone marketplace as the first Windows phone with Beats Audio, the HTC Windows Phone 8X contains a built-in audio amplifier which works through both the handset speaker and audio jack, improving overall sound quality when you are listening to your favorite music, watching a video or playing a game.

The HTC Windows Phone 8X 4G effortlessly meshes with your Microsoft powered desktop or mobile PC, and your Xbox video game system. Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter applications have been pre-installed, as has the Internet Explorer 10 web browser of internet connectivity. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of extra wide video and image capture, with the front facing chat cam capable of photographing almost 3 times the area of the typical smartphone chat cam.

The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder comes with a dedicated shutter key and a proprietary ISP in the HTC ImageSense technology, which allows for extreme customization and special effects. Nearly instant image capture is provided, and low light camera operation is excellent thanks to the F/2.0 lens and built-in LED flash. Video recording runs 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second, and the front facing chat cam offers video call support.

The handset also delivers a large 4.30 inch display, with the HTC Windows Phone 8X using more than 16 million different colors and rendering them at the rate of 342 pixels per inch. That gives the handset a high-end resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, and the S-LCD 2 display is protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2. The CPU is a 1.5 GHz dual core model, 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, as is 8 or 16 GB of built-in data storage.
