htconeHTC President Jason Mackenzie boldly promised that the HTC One 4G Android smartphone would get Jelly Bean 4.3 and leapfrog any 4.2 updates, receiving that update in September. There is still time to make good on that promise, and some recently released news will help clear up the details. HTC has done a great job with Android updates so far this year, something that can not be said for all manufacturers. Updates to the One X+, One X and One have come quickly, and Mackenzie just reiterated yesterday that all US HTC One smartphones would definitely receive Android 4.3 this September.

The HTC One 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at one penny.

He also claimed the Droid DNA would be receiving 4.3 with Sense 5, but did not list a specific launch date, as the Jelly Bean operating system upgrade would be vendor specific. Sprint has significantly undercut Verizon and AT&T with the price tag of their HTC One, which can be purchased at Amazon for only one penny on contract currently. You may recall that the HTC One entered 2013 as one of the most widely anticipated smartphones of the last couple of years, and it has not disappointed. Extremely high resolution and pixel density accompany a large screen and powerful hardware package.

Arriving in late April in the US, the HTC One immediately tabulated 5 million units in global sales, beating analyst’s expectations. Continuing as a bestseller, the HTC One 4G has been lauded as an environmentally friendly “green machine” by independent testing lab UL Environment. The phone has been designed with an infrared sensor that allows you to use it as a remote control for your TV and home stereo system, and Sense TV helps you channel surf by offering access to programming guides. The HTC BlinkFeed allows users to pick their preferred social networking sites, news and feeds they enjoy, and delivers all of this info in one place.

This is also the phone that unveiled the groundbreaking UltraPixel HTC technology that uses a 4 MP sensor, but combines it with a special CMOS Sensor, ISP, and optical lens system that helps it capture more light. This has delivered the ability to capture up to 300% more light than phone cameras with 8 or even 13 megapixels, and that camera records video in Full HD 1,080P resolution. The HTC One smartphone is also slim at just 0.37 inches ( 9.3 mm) in thickness, and spreads 16 million colors across its large 4.7 inch Full HD display at the rate of 468 color pixels per inch, for an overall 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution.

Corning Gorilla Glass 2 offers screen protection, and the sealed battery on the HTC One can pump out 16.0 hours of talk time from a full charge. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip set powers the handset, built around a 1.7 GHz quad core CPU. An Adreno 320 GPU joins 2.0 GB RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage in the handset’s hardware package. A Stereo FM radio with RDS benefits from dual front speakers and Beats Audio sound boosting, and the phone can function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices.

The HTC One 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at just one penny.
