htconeThe HTC One has been such a widely anticipated handset, many analysts predicted a two-year contract retail price of $249, or possibly $199. While AT&T is offering the 32 GB version for $199 on contract, Sprint is currently selling the same HTC One 4G handset for $99 on contract. That price is available for the HTC One at Amazon, where the smartphone delivers the highest pixel density we have seen for a mobile handset thus far. The Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system powers the handset out-of-the-box.

PhonesReview reported today that they spoke to an unnamed “inside source” who claims the handset will receive the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system update in “about two months.” Independent testing lab UL Environment has designated the HTC One 4G a “green machine” with platinum certification, meaning that the phone was manufactured with materials that give the life cycle of the handset a minimal environmental impact.

Special HTC Sense features allow you to use the HTC One as a remote control for your TV, and also deliver your favorite social networking sites’ updates, news feeds and alerts to your home screen. HTC improved camera operability on several fronts, adds a premium metal unibody design, simplified the HTC Sense Android experience and made it more intuitive, and delivers Beats Audio sound enhancement to the HTC One via dual front facing speakers. The handset is also powered by a quad core chip which promises 40% more power than the Snapdragon S4 Pro.

Measuring 0.37 inches (9.3 mm), the HTC One smartphone is slim, and the hallmark of the handset is the high-resolution 4.7 inch Super LCD 3 display which offers a Full HD screen with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. That gives the phone an industry-leading 468 pixels per inch for the 16 million colors it uses to render visuals, and a second generation of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance. Talk time runs high at 16.0 hours, and video playback is better than average at 8.5 hours from a full battery charge.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T system chip is at the core of the handset’s hardware package, with a quad core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 processor as its anchor. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and the rear facing 2.0 UltraPixel camcorder on the HTC One 4G can capture up to 20 photos with a single push of the shutter button, record quick 3 second video bursts, allows you to customize how your video is designed and displayed, and provides simultaneous HD image and video capture. That video is recorded in 1,080P HD resolution, and a front facing chat cam is also on board.
