htcdroiddnaThe HTC Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone is currently retailing for the entry-level price of $49 on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online. That is the handset’s lowest retail price tag so far at Amazon, and comes on the heels of a disappearing and reappearing act the phone pulled frecently. Rumors have been running wild that the HTC One will appear as the replacement for the Droid DNA 4G. While these rumors have continually been denied by that smartphone manufacturer, the handset recently disappeared from Verizon’s official website.

The Droid DNA 4G is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and the removal of the handset from Big Red’s site seemed to add fuel to the fire that the Droid DNA 4G would be no longer once the HTC One appears. Once again, spokesmen for Verizon echoed the HTC disclaimer, claiming that this was simply a glitch and nothing more. The website has since re-added the Droid DNA 4G to their list of available handsets, and the new lower price on Amazon’s website is sure to guarantee that the Droid DNA 4G remains on Amazon’s top 10 best-selling smartphones list, a spot where it has been spotted virtually since it arrived in late November of last year.

It is no mystery that Samsung and Apple have owned, and continued to dominate, the smartphone marketplace. The Galaxy S III and iPhone 5 are far and away the most popular two handsets on the planet currently, and the Droid DNA 4G was the effort from HTC to go toe to toe with those two smartphone giants. The phone delivers extremely high pixel density, high screen resolution, one of the largest screens in the entire smartphone marketplace, a powerful quad core processor and the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box.

With 441 pixels located over every single inch of display space, the Droid DNA 4G outdoes the top offerings from Samsung and Apple. The screen is also significantly larger than Apple and marginally larger than the Galaxy S III, at 5.0 inches. Apple released its first ever 4.0 inch display on the iPhone 5, which offers 326 pixels per inch. The Galaxy S III delivers a 4.8 inch screen, and pixel density is still excellent at 306 ppi. HTC has also included the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package, which includes both a headset amplifier and dedicated speaker amps.

Skinny at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) and light at 4.87 ounces (130 g), the Droid DNA 4G body contains a large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display. Resolution runs 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and talk time runs 12.6 hours from a single charge. A 1.5 GHz Snapdragon quad core processor handles device operations, and 2.0 GB of RAM memory is built-in. Continuous shooting, simultaneous HD video and image capture and excellent low light performance is provided by the rear facing camcorder, and that 8.0 megapixel camera is capable of recording video in 1,080P HD resolution.
