droiddnaIn recent news concerning the HTC Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone, the handset’s sibling Butterfly recently received an upgrade to the Android 4.2.2 operating system in Taiwan. That update is reportedly headed west, hopefully to eventually end up on the HTC Droid DNA running in the United States on Verizon Wireless. Arguably one of the most power packed smartphones ever designed, the Droid DNA 4G recently has seen drastic retail price reductions online in advance of the upcoming HTC One arriving on Verizon.

The HTC Droid DNA smartphone is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.

The phone delivers a very large screen at 5.0 inches, a powerful quad core processor, substantial RAM memory at 2.0 GB, and a multitalented multimedia package. The exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement system is on board, improving sound quality and volume from dedicated speaker and handset amplifiers. That sound boosting technology joins the large, Full HD display and Adreno 320 graphics processor to support even the most demanding HD games like the Reign of Amira, which comes pre-installed and ready for use out-of-the-box.

Considering the amount of hardware on board and the size of the display, the HTC Droid DNA 4G is slim at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) and light at 4.87 ounces (138 g). The large Super LCD3 display delivers an overall resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, with 441 color pixels found over each inch of display space. Everyday drops and dings are combated by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The standard multitouch, capacitive gestures are used for navigation, with light and proximity sensors on board automating display dimming and brightness adjustment to help conserve battery power.

This assists the 2,020 mA battery on the Droid DNA 4G in delivering a full 12.8 hours after a full charge, and more than two weeks of standby power. Wireless charging is also on board, as is 16 GB of built-in data storage space. A quad core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor is the centerpiece of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system chip which runs the handset.

The rear snapper records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution) and at 30fps, as well as in stereo sound. That camera offers an 8 megapixel sensor, extra-wide f/2.0 lens, built-in LED flash and back illuminated sensor (BSI). The Droid DNA 4G can simultaneously recording HD video while capturing snapshots, and delivers an extensive special effects package. The handset also delivers a 2.1 megapixel front facing chat cam with 1,080P HD resolution video capture. The HTC Droid DNA 4G smartphone can be purchased at a discounted price now starting for under $50!
