droiddnaThe HTC Droid DNA 4G smartphone runs on Jelly Bean 4.1, and is exclusive to Verizon. The handset was recently bestowed a $49 on contract price tag from Amazon, a retail price which belies the powerful hardware and software the phone delivers. Released November 21 last year, HTC made the Droid DNA 4G in a sleek and slim form factor, giving it attention-grabbing red side grills and a seamless laminated display. The phone arrives in a tough and light polycarbonate unibody, offering the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement.

Beats comes equipped with a 2.5 volt headset amp and dedicated speaker amplifiers, and joins a YouTube video player and music player in the Droid DNA multimedia suite. However, easily the highlight of the handset is the large 5.0 inch Full HD 1,080P display that delivers an extremely high pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. Comparing apples to apples, the Samsung Galaxy S III offers 306 pixels per inch, while the Apple iPhone 5 delivers a pixel density of 326 ppi.

The handset is also powered by a 1.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon CPU, and the fantasy realm HD game Reign of Amira has been preloaded to show off the large, high-resolution screen, powerful processor, and Adreno 320 GPU. The HTC Droid DNA 4G for Verizon is slim at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm), and lightweight for a smartphone with such a large screen, weighing just 4.87 ounces (130 g). The 5.0 inch display alluded to is an ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 model with 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution.

A full 16 million colors are used to render visuals on that display, which accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures and is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Gorilla Glass. A talk time of 12.6 hours can be achieved from a single battery charge, as well as a standby time of 14.6 days. The power pack on the Droid DNA 4G also delivers 2.0 GB of RAM memory, and 16 GB of storage built-in. Up front on the phone is a chat cam of 2.1 megapixels with ultra wide panorama capture, and built into the back of the phone is an 8.0 megapixel camcorder.

That rear snapper provides a continuous shooting mode which will get you up to four shots per second, an exclusive HTC VideoPic feature that provides simultaneous HD video and image capture, and the HTC ImageChip technology which helps remove noise and balance color. Low light operation is excellent thanks to the wide f/2.0 lens and backside illumination sensor (BSI), as well as the built in LED flash. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution, and the rear camera delivers a special effects package and extensive customization features.
