droiddna@LlabTooFer has been very accurate in the past when mentioning leaks about smartphone operating system updates before the manufacturer officially announces. Just this week that previously reliable source mentioned that the Droid DNA 4G would be getting updated to Jelly Bean 4.2. The unofficial Internet leaker did not mention a time frame, but said that it would happen at the same time that the brand-new HTC One receives Jelly Bean 4.2.2, which is set to happen “soon”.

The DROID DNA By HTC is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $199.99 for new customers.

When the update hits is anyone’s guess, but the HTC Droid DNA 4G did recently benefit from the release of the HTC One and Galaxy S4 smartphones. In the face of those two huge releases, the Droid DNA 4G retail price has been discounted heavily at select online retailers. HTC has not confirmed nor denied the Jelly Bean 4.2 update rumor for the Droid DNA 4G, a handset which delivers one of the largest screens and highest resolutions of any smartphone. That large display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 2, and is designed as a seamless laminated screen that helps eliminate reflection.

Exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, the Droid DNA 4G offers a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder with 1,080P HD resolution video capture. That rear snapper also provides a multishot mode and can simultaneously record high resolution video while capturing high-quality images. Low light camera operability is excellent due to the built-in LED flash, f/2.0 extra-wide lens and back illuminated sensor (BSI). The handset also offers a front facing 2.1 megapixel chat cam.

Regardless of the impressive hardware and large display, the handset is still slim, measuring just 0.38 inches (9.73 mm). Also light at 4.87 ounces (130 g), the Droid DNA 4G boasts a large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display. Pixel density is extremely high at 441 pixels per inch, giving the handset an overall resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. That display also delivers more than 16 million independent colors, and is navigated by standard capacitive, multitouch gestures.

Talk time is above average at 12.6 hours from a full battery charge, with more than 14 days standby power. The powerful system chip is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 model, centered around a quad core 1.5 GHz CPU. Graphics are handled by an Adreno 320 GPU, the handset offers 16 GB of built-in storage space, and a generous 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is also on board. The Droid DNA 4G offers NFC wireless support and video out options.

You can purchase the DROID DNA By HTC at a discounted price tag now starting at $199.99 for new customers and current customer upgrades.
