droiddna2The HTC Droid DNA launched last year in November on the 4G LTE system of Verizon Wireless. Delivering the Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box along with a powerful quad core CPU and substantial amount of RAM memory, the handset has been a bestseller for Verizon, as well as those retailers which offer it. The much-anticipated HTC One 4G Android smartphone just launched this past Friday, and its arrival has caused Amazon to significantly lower the price of the HTC Droid DNA 4G.

In advance of upcoming launches of new phones, many retailers will discount their current batch of handsets. That was the case with the Droid DNA 4G, which now retails for a bargain bin price tag of $49 with a standard two-year contract at Amazon. The handset delivers the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement system, complete with a 2.5 volt headset amplifier and dedicated speaker amps. The phone has been designed in a slim and light form factor, with a tough and durable polycarbonate unibody.

The large 5.0 inch 1,080P Full HD display offers one of the highest pixel densities of any smartphone ever designed, at 441 pixels per inch. That is substantially higher than the 306 ppi offered by the Samsung Galaxy S III, or the 326 ppi delivered by the Apple iPhone 5. By stretching the display from edge to edge, the handset was created in the smallest possible form factor for a phone with a 5.0 inch display, and it measures 5.55 x 2.78 x 0.38 inches (141 x 70.5 x 9.73 mm) in size.

The 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display mentioned above delivers an overall screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and more than 16 million colors. A scratch resistant layer of Gorilla Glass offers protection against everyday abuse, and the battery delivers a full 12.6 hours of talk time from a full charge. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system chip, delivers 16 GB of internal storage space, and a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is present on the Droid DNA handset.

An Adreno 320 GPU exclusively handles all graphics processing, and the CPU is a quad core Krait chip clocked at 1.5 GHz. The HTC Droid DNA 4G delivers NFC support out-of-the-box, also offering video out options. YouTube and Picasa applications have been pre-installed, and the 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the handset is capable of capturing up to four shots per second in continuous shooting mode, recording video in 1,080P HD resolution, and also simultaneously recording high-quality stills while shooting HD video.
