When you take a look at the current lineup of Android-powered smartphones offered by Verizon, the HTC Rezound 4G is definitely one of the better-performing handsets and can always be expected to be at or at least near the top of the smartphone leaderboards of the wireless provider. In fact, many of our smartphone-crazed brethren would argue that the HTC Rezound 4G will no doubt be on top if only it were already running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system, a feat that only the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has managed to do over at the carrier and the only reason the Google flagship device is at the number one spot as of the moment.

Buy the HTC Rezound starting at just $49, and get a $40 credit on your Verizon phone bill.

Sad to say, despite the components and capabilities of the HTC Rezound 4G, the handset until now is yet to get upgraded to the latest version of the Android operating system although there were already a couple of leaked ICS ROMs that surfaced in the past to give users of the handset an idea as to how Ice Cream Sandwich will look and feel on the handset. There were also a couple of rumors in the past that got us excited about the prospect of ICS finally landing on the HTC Rezound 4G. One was the rumor started by Best Buy claiming that the handset will get upgraded to ICS last April 6 but we all know now that that particular rumor fizzled out. Back in the early parts of May, another rumor started circulating when an internal Verizon document got leaked where it was intimated that the ICS testing for the HTC Rezound 4G is set to be completed by May 7 and then to be followed by a May 9 rollout.

Sad to say, none of those rumors panned out and users of the HTC Rezound 4G are still waiting for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich refresh to finally get rolled out for the handset. Sad to say, we still don’t have any idea as to when the official rollout will happen with both Verizon and HTC keeping mum about the subject.

Until now.

HTC finally came out with an updated ICS roadmap where it details the projected timeframes of ICS finally landing on the devices in its stable. This roadmap confirms that the HTC Rezound 4G will finally get upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich either in June or July. Sad to say, no specific dates were provided by the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer but the June to July timeframe is as good as it can get. Though not as soon as what we are hoping for, it is at least great news for users of the handset to know that they only have to wait for a month, two at the most and their handsets will finally get that tasty treat of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.  Buy the HTC Rezound starting at just $49, and get a $40 credit on your Verizon phone bill.

  1. I bought the HTC Rezound instead of a Samsung Galaxy at Xmas 2011 because it was running Android 2.3.4 instead of ICS. Most all the software products I am using haven’t, even now, been upgraded to run on ICS correctly, yet they still run fine on 2.3.4.

  2. I agree with Robert. Although I would like longer battery life and a boost in speed, at least everything is running well. I’m a Realtor. I was notified within the past week that the software I use to link to a device I use to open keyboxes at listings will not function on Android 4.0.3. Therefore, I was warned to NOT upgrade from Gingerbread until such time as they update their app. Now I’m at the mercy of a software developer that has nothing to do with Verizon nor HTC. Will the madness ever end?! LOL

Serious, I’ve been OK with the “delay” of getting ICS because of the reason Robert stated. With so many apps still not compatible with 4.0.3, to won’t matter if our handsets get upgraded tomorrow. We’ll still be handicapped. I hope that Google can find a way to motivate app developers to update their software to be compatible with ICS. Until then, for many of us, ICS will be a useless upgrade because we’ll have a handset that will run faster but with fewer apps that can function.

  3. I’m just tired of all the rumors. Just do it already. Tired of waiting and checking for software updates almost daily to see if the rumors are true.

  4. sad to say, but ICS for the Rezound is vaporware. It’ll never happen.

  5. @ox4 you sound stupid? thats why HTC put it on their list of phones that will get the upgrade??

  6. ox4 sounds more like someone who’s been around the block (Read: Jerked around by Android manufacturers) than stupid.

Android is basically a show us the upgrade or GTFO platform, sadly. Many promises with few deliveries. (Unless you wanna buy our latest device and toss your 5 month old one out….)
