The Samsung Galaxy S II  Skyrocket 4G has officially been available in the United States on the AT&T LTE network for more than nine months. Arriving in early November of 2011, that smartphone was one of the first with LTE capabilities to land on the new AT&T 4G LTE system. Perfectly timed for the holiday season last year, the handset was an immediate bestseller for AT&T, but some nine months later still continues to be a flagship phone for that carrier. One of the reasons is the improved processor power and capability over previous Galaxy S II smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G Android smartphone delivers a central processor which is roughly 25% quicker and more capable than the other Galaxy S II handsets which came before it. Simply continuing the incredible success of the Galaxy S line of Android smartphones, all Galaxy S II handsets passed the 50 million unit mark in global sales in June of this year. That handset recently benefited from an over the air transfer to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system, and employs Samsung’s own TouchWiz Android UI interface, allowing for standard multitouch, capacitive gestures to navigate the device.

Continuing the tradition the Samsung has employed to become the worldwide leader in smartphone sales, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is light and thin, registering a profile of only 0.37 inches (9.4 mm), and barely tipping the scales at 4.66 ounces (132 g). The large 4.50 inch Super AMOLED Plus display on the handset delivers 480 x 800 pixel resolution at over 200 pixels per inch, and uses a total of more than 16 million separate colors to create visual displays.

The Samsung Skyrocket uses a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon microchip package to handle device operations, and that includes a 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor which is a powerful improvement over the 1.2 GHz processors used in other Galaxy S II handsets. A separate Adreno 220 chip exclusively handles all graphics processing, 16 GB of storage are built-in and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is present. A microSD slot has been added for storage expansion.

The same high resolution Galaxy S II camera combo is present here on the Skyrocket, and that includes a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam and an 8.0 megapixel camcorder around back. 1,080P HD resolution video recording is provided by that rear facing camcorder, and a built-in music player joins a proprietary YouTube video player in the multimedia package on board the handset. Near Field Communications (NFC) support is offered out-of-the-box.  The popular Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is currently available starting at $79
