Developer preview of Ubuntu Touch to become available for the Samsung Galaxy Note II

ubuntudevJust last week, the Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview was made available on several Google developer devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, LG Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. The release of the preview gave the boys and girls of the developer communities the opportunity to see what Ubuntu Touch is made of. In addition to that, power users and hackers also got access to the core and shell apps of the operating system. But since the version released is just a preview, it had a lot of bugs and issues and Canonical emphasized that the Developer Preview is not advisable to be used as a daily driver.

In recent developments, Canonical confirmed that the Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview will also be made available on other Android-powered smartphones as part of its port-a-thon initiative. According to them and we quote, “We want to port Ubuntu Touch to all kinds of devices,” and is asking developers from all around to join in and help.” And with the OS’ apparent compatibility with Android-powered handsets has only endeared it more to the Android community.

Going back to the new devices that will soon get a taste of the Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview, Canonical confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be included in the list of handsets that will support this. This decision did not come as a surprise at all given the fact that the second generation Samsung phablet is still one of the more capable devices currently available in the market today despite the entry of newer handsets to the market.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II boasts of an impressive resume that is made up of fire-breathing components under the hood that make it possible for the device to bring an even more impressive set of capabilities to the table. The main selling point of the phablet however is its massive 5.5 inches of screen real estate which makes the handset very ideal for multimedia consumption.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Note II already runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its operating system which gives it access to features such as Project Butter and Google Now.
