As of the moment, the hottest handset in the smartphone market is the Samsung Galaxy S III. This is not surprising in any way because the handset is even more capable than its predecessor. In fact, even before it was released, a lot of our smartphone-crazed brethren have already been eagerly awaiting the launch of the current Samsung flagship device. Because of this, the popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S III reached unprecedented heights and this ultimately led to an overwhelming demand for the handset.

The overwhelming demand for the handset unfortunately worked against Samsung as well. Due to this, the manufacturer encountered challenges in coming up with the required number of handsets to take care of this demand. As expected, delays were seen in the release of the handset on a global scale.

In fact, in US shores alone where the handset was released by all major wireless providers in our side of the world, delays were seen before the handset finally made it to the shelves of these carriers. And now that the smartphone-buying population finally got the chance to finally play with the superphone, all are in agreement that the wait for the handset was definitely worth it.

However, if most users are very content with the performance of the handset, the hardworking fellows in the developer communities are complaining about the locked bootloader of the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Come to think of it, the Verizon variant of the handset is the only one that ships with a locked bootloader while those released by AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are very “developer-friendly”, so to speak.

Verizon however announced the reasons behind the locked bootloader of its version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. According to the carrier, if the bootloader of the handset is unlocked, it would be very hard for the wireless provider to provide the normal level of customer service for the handset. In addition to that, an unlocked bootloader on the Samsung Galaxy S III ultimately affects, negatively at that, the way it connects to the network of Verizon – hence, the decision to lock the bootloader of the superphone.

Be that as it may, it has been confirmed that Samsung and Verizon will be releasing a Developer Edition of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III and this version of the handset will have an unlocked bootloader. However, this version of the handset will not get subsidized by Verizon and will be offered for $599.99 through the online store of Samsung. In return for the exorbitant price point of the handset, a developer wanting to tinker with the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S III will get all the freedom he needs for that matter.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III starting at $149.
