AT&T’s HTC Windows Phone 8X Price Check, Specs Breakdown

htcwp8xThe 8 GB HTC Windows Phone 8X hit the AT&T 4G HSPA+ network in November of last year. The handset is currently retailing for around $49 on contract at select online retailers, and delivers speeds up to four times faster than the previous AT&T mobile broadband network. The phone also delivers the AT&T mobile hotspot service pre-installed, as well as the sound-boosting Beats Audio. Beats uses dedicated speaker and headset amplifiers to strengthen the audio signal for better sound experience, and works through all sound-equipped applications.

The HTC Windows Phone 8X is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

The handset is also available in a 16 GB variant, which retails for around $99 on contract. The camcorder built into the back of the Windows Phone 8X contains an 8.0 megapixel sensor and a dedicated shutter key. HTC has also included their ImageSense technology, and this delivers some special effects and other photo trickery. Lightning fast capture times, a continuous shot mode, an ultra-wide 88 degree f/2.0 aperture and a back illuminated sensor (BSI) are all features found on that rear facing camcorder.

That rear snapper provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution, and joining it in the camera combo is a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam that also delivers an extra-wide 88 degree lens. Wireless connectivity is offered through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC options, with the HTC Windows Phone 8 X for AT&T delivering Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa applications out-of-the-box. The mobile version of Internet Explorer 10 has also been pre-installed, and the phone delivers up to 11.3 hours of talk time from a full battery charge.

Also capable of connecting to any GSM or UMTS network in the world, the AT&T Windows Phone 8X measures 0.40 inches (10.1 mm) in thickness and weighs just 4.59 ounces (130 g). The display runs a large 4.30 inches, and offers a much higher than average pixel density, spreading more than 16 million colors across the screen at the rate of 342 pixels per inch. This gives the handset a 720 x 1,280 True HD resolution, with the Super LCD 2 display accepting capacitive multitouch gestures, and protected by a scratch resistant layer of second generation Gorilla Glass.

The AT&T HTC Windows Phone 8X uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 as its brain trust, built around a speedy dual core Krait CPU that has been clocked at 1.50 GHz. Graphics are handled by an Adreno 225 GPU, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. Voice dialing, voice commands and voice recording are all supported, and the phone includes 7 GB of SkyDrive cloud storage out-of-the-box.
