The Apple iPhone 4S arrived on October 14 approximately a week after the shocking death of Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs. Typical Apple iDevice addiction combined with those looking to get their hands on the last iPhone developed by Jobs, and the iPhone 4S sales launch was successful to say the least. The device arrived in time for holiday shopping, and corrected some shortcomings that the iPhone 4 possessed, while staying almost identical in design. Processor and speed improvement, and camera upgrades where the two changes iPhone 4 owners begged for, and they have been addressed in the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 4S measures 4.54 x 2.31 x 0.37 inches (115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm), and weighs 4.94 oz (140 g), and is available in white or black. The display is 3.50 inches and offers 640 x 960 pixel resolution on the capacitive multitouch LCD screen. That display contains a light sensor for auto display adjustment, and proximity sensor for auto shut off, and supports up to 16 million color visual rendering.

The industry average talk time in a 4G device is 8 hours, and the Apple iPhone 4S provides almost double that, at 14.00 hours. Standby time is approximately 8 days, and when operating in 3G, talk time is 8.00 hours on a single battery charge. The processor improvement mentioned earlier is a step up to a dual core chip, a 1.0 GHz A5 model, and it joins 512 MB of RAM memory, and either 16, 32 or 64 GB of onboard storage depending on the model you purchase.

A front facing VGA quality chat cam also provides video call capability, and the rear facing camcorder has been improved to 8.0 megapixels, and includes touch to focus, Geo tagging, autofocus, face detection, image stabilizer, video stabilizer and LED flash features. That camera can now record in 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p HD). And debuting for the first time is virtual assistant Siri, who communicates with you vocally, delivering your search requests and performing other operations. A microUSB 2.0 port is on board for charging the device, and Apple’s iOS 5 operating system comes preinstalled.
