Mobile apps, whether they be games, productivity software or other types of applications, are designed in some way to enhance your experience on your mobile handset. However, recent data compiled by the most trusted pollster in the nation shows a different trend. Android owners are totally, head-over-heels, crazy in love with their applications, and spend the majority of their time using apps, and very little time on the World Wide Web.

Eric Zeman of InformationWeek recently reported on the data released by marketing analyst and pollster Nielsen that pointed out this trend and others. And while there are over 200,000 applications available for the many different Android operating systems, the top 50 apps received the lion’s share of attention. Actually, most apps go unused by the vast majority of Android users.

How can such data be verified? Many popular applications had meters installed upon them that would track information such as number of downloads and frequency of use. Nielsen’s data obtained from this research was based on thousands of Apple iOS and Android operating system apps. During the download process, the mobile user consented to a release of any information garnered while they were using the app.

The typical Android owner spends approximately one hour out of their entire day using and interacting with their favorite mobile websites and mobile applications. Roughly 2/3 of that amount of time is spent enjoying their favorite apps, and the remaining third of an our is spent surfing the web. That would seem like a great thing for apps developers, but when you dig a little deeper, the numbers show more revealing trends.

Every single Droid application was not metered and tested, so the results are somewhat skewed. However, even knowing that, the fact that the top 10 mobile applications account for a full 43% of every minute Android users spend using these mobile apps is astounding. The next 40 apps only account for an additional 18% of all time spent on mobile apps usage.

That means over 199,000 applications are fighting for 39% of an Android mobile users time, or roughly 24 minutes a day. And with new applications coming out literally every minute, the competition is becoming fiercer all the time. What are those apps that have so enraptured Android users? The top 10 Free and Paid apps are, in no particular order:

Free

YouTube, Amazon Kindle, Advanced Task Killer, Facebook, Pandora, Angry Birds, Dragon Fly, Words with Friends, Angry Birds Rio, and Google Maps.

Paid

Beautiful Widgets, Fruit Ninja, SwiftKey X, Robo Defense, PowerAMP Full, ROM Manager, Cut the Rope, SoundHound, Doodle Jump and ADW Launcher.

Clearly, Android apps developers have their hands full trying to draw Android users eyeballs away from their favorite applications and games.
