Amazon to Donate $20 When You Buy a Kindle Fire HDX Tablet

kindlefirehdxIn the spirit of the holiday season, Internet retailing kingpin Amazon will donate $20 to the charitable organization of your choice when you purchase a Kindle Fire HDX 7 or 8.9 inch tablet between now and December 8. After a Black Friday to Cyber Monday weekend kickoff to the official holiday shopping season which saw Kindle Fire tablets as the number one bestselling product on all of Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer began the Amazon Smile promotion, which some analysts expect to generate $75 to $100 million for some noteworthy charities.

The Kindle Fire HDX is available for immediate shipment starting at $229.

You can choose between St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the American Red Cross, The Nature Conservancy or even write in your own charity for the $20 donation. Pricing begins at $229 on the Kindle Fire HDX 7 inch tablet 16 GB model, and an 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX tablet is also available, with both of those sizes coming in 16, 32 and 64 GB versions. The basis of the Kindle Fire HDX tablet is a Full HD 1,080P display with excellent pixel density, a 2.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a front facing HD camera and dual stereo speakers with Dolby audio.

And one of the most innovative features is one that Amazon hopes you never have to use. The Kindle Fire HDX tablets come with a built-in Mayday button that gives you instant and free customer service access. Customer support is also provided via e-mail, the web or telephone. Neil Lindsay, Vice President of the Amazon Kindle arm of Amazon said his company is “excited that so many customers have chosen Kindle this holiday season.”

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube access is integrated for quick share capability, and all Kindle Fire HDX tablet purchases entitle you to 30 days of free Amazon Prime membership. This allows you unlimited streaming of movies and TV episodes, and limited free Kindle book reading. The tablet also offers a neat Fling feature which allows you to send movies from your tablet to your big screen TV. The Amazon tablet even delivers a hands-free Origami Cover, an ingenious foldout stand which works in landscape or portrait orientation for hands-free viewing.

Amazon also offers unlimited cloud storage for all your Amazon content, with the slim Kindle Fire HDX tablet measuring just 0.35 inches (9.0 mm) in thickness. A 4G model is available with up to 11 hours of all-around use is provided from a single charge. And the new Fire OS 3.0 nicknamed Mojito is an Android-based operating system which adds cloud services, built-in media libraries, productivity apps and multiple platform enhancements.
