lggpadThis week, LG and Verizon Wireless both announced that the LG G Pad 8.3 will be available on the network where it will likely take on the LTE version of the Nexus 7 from ASUS.  Because the iPad Mini with Retina display is also sold there, the LG G Pad 8.3 is looking at some stiff competition, but the overall specs are likely to play a role in whether it sells or not.  The tablet launched a few months ago and comes with a price tag that reads just $349.

For that cost, you are going to be getting a full HD 1080p touch screen display, 4G LTE support and many other great features.  If you are willing to hook up with a new two year contract, Verizon Wireless will be lowering the price to just $99.  Starting this week, customers on the network will be able to purchase the 4G LTE enabled tablet for just $299 without any contract.  The regular Wi-Fi model is the one that was priced at more than $349, but that price is certainly going to come down now that the 4G LTE option is ready.

The initial reports about the LG G Pad 8.3 4G LTE model have been flowing online since January and those were based on information that came directly from LG and Verizon.  One bad thing about the tablet is that it will be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right out of the box.  Many would expect to see the latest Android operating system pre-installed, but that apparently is not going to be the case.  The 8.3-inch display has a resolution of 1920x1080p and is powered by a super fast, quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM.  16GB of internal memory are offered with a microSD card slot for expansion.

Something that is becoming a little more common with tablets is the camera on the back side.  For the LG G Pad 8.3, the camera on the back is a 5MP model, while the front facing webcam is much smaller at 1.3MP.  The tablet has dual stereo speakers on the back and an Infrared port for remote capability.  The tablet is going to be quick, offer 1080p imagery and plenty of storage via the microSD slot and is likely to give the Nexus 7 a run comparing sales numbers.
