Back in the day when quad-core superphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X were still in rumor land, one of the best smartphones in the Android ecosystem that you can get your hands on is the HTC Rezound 4G released by Verizon in US shores. In fact, the handset is considered by many as THE best Android-powered smartphone because of its impressive components and capabilities despite the fact that the HTC Rezound 4G is still stuck in the Gingerbread generation. The slightly out of date operating system of the HTC Rezound 4G is one of its pain points and is said to be the reason as to why more Verizon subscribers opt for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus because the Google flagship device is a smartphone that gives its users a fully stock, Vanilla-flavored version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The HTC Rezound 4G is currently available starting at $99.

The HTC Rezound 4G however is included in the list of HTC handsets that will get cranked up to ICS. This much was confirmed by the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer when it first came out with its ICS plans earlier this year. In fact, at the time HTC announced its ICS plans, it said that the HTC Rezound 4G will get upgraded to ICS as early as March. Sad to say, that did not pan out and users of the handset are back to waiting for the update to finally get rolled out.

Then last month, HTC put up the changelog of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Rezound 4G in its support site to let users of the handset know what goodies and treats ICS will bring to the smartphone. Verizon’s support site however did not reflect any new changes in its HTC Rezound 4G page. The manufacturer again came out and confirmed that the ICS update will finally land on the handset before the end of July – which is just a couple of days from now.

This could in fact happen if the information in a memo that our source managed to get his hands on pans out. The memo obtained by the source lists down all the software updates that Verizon plans to roll out for the week and according to the information, the ICS update for the handset is slated to hit the HTC Rezound 4G on July 29 and will weigh in at approximately 292 MB. There is still no information on Verizon’s website about the update and if the past is any indication, we always have seen the support site of the carrier to show the changelog of any updates that the carrier is about to rollout for that matter. Does the missing changelog for the ICS update of the HTC Rezound 4G mean that users of the handset still have to wait longer than necessary for the update to land? Well, we certainly hope not.  Please let us know if you receive it and what your experience is like!  You can buy the HTC Rezound starting at $99.

  1. Htc and Verizon should get sued over this nonsense its the 31st of July and still no damn update this is straight bull shit I won’t blame anyone for throwing thier phone across the room. I’m not paying my Verizon bill I’m switching to an unlocked nonhtc phone this week

  2. Were hearing (rezound users) the same thing over and over ICS is coming soon. Until Verizon release a date stop all the ” sources told us” bologna

  3. Are U kidding me…..no update at all.

Seems that the wool has been pulled over the eyes of every website rep who has reported on this story.

I have to agree…the changelog appears to be a photoshopped fraud.

I simply do not understand why Verizon does not update its customers on this issue. Its not going away….throw us a bone so we can stop wondering and waiting..

Give us a true date and be done with it….is it so freekin’ hard?

  4. the same 7/29 hoax is all over the place. that date did not come from verizon or htc. its fake. htc’s site does not give a date. and verizon’s site doesn’t show a damn thing.

  5. No update here as well. I guess someone is getting a kick out of posting fake update scheduelles. I dont know why verizon has been so silent over this. Just give us the f@#$ing update already. Im so done with htc after all this BS. Why does moto razrr get updated so quickly when the rezound has been out for a month longer than it. I really dont give a rats ass if its a better seller. The rezound is a good phone, and we deserve ics. Release the update verizon

  6. Wife has the RAZR…the ICS update was plagued with bugs. Verizon is releasing a bug fix for it in August.

It appears that this is a Verizon issue. HTC got us the phone…the leaks from HTC are on the NET and Rezound users have downloaded it and have it on their phones. This means that Verizon is simply holding it back for god knows what reason.

  7. This is not necessarily HTC’s fault. HTC finished the ICS update for the Rezound months ago. It is VERIZON who has to hack the crap out of it to make it “their own” before they release it. Also, the Rezound didn’t sell as well as it should have, so Verizon really doesn’t care about the few customers who were smart enough to buy one.

Frankly, Verizon doesn’t give a damn about it’s customers at all. They don’t care if you go somewhere else. I have been a Verizon customer for 12 years and all they do is promise features that they do not deliver and add ways to charge more money. But the grass is not greener. It truly IS all about the network, and having a signal [almost] everyone (although, not always a GOOD signal) is what it is all about. I WISH there were a better communications company available, because I would definitely go there. But they are all the same.

However, the HTC Rezound needs the update NOW! I’m getting sick of losing signal due to a firmware screwup. What is the point of having a 4G phone if the signal sporadically disappears?!? FOR THIS REASON ALONE VERIZON SHOULD HAVE UPDATED THIS PHONE IMMEDIATELY!

This is why Verizon, and other companies like them, suck.

  8. The “documen” that was “leaked” is a FAKE. It is photoshopped. next time you see it – look at the word “quene” it should be “queue” they can’t even spell it right. Second of all there are “0″ missing in front of July for the Rezound date, but they are on all other dates like 08/12, not on July for the Rezound. I spoke with Tiffany in verizon Advance Tech Support Rep ID# 583058 and she advised me ICS for Rezound is NOT expected until Fall 2012.

  9. Someone should start a class action suit against Verizon for fraud. One of the major selling points was a quick update to ICS. I like my Rezound and will keep it but I sure learned my lesson. Might as well forget ICS and just give us Jelly Bean.

  10. The whole ICS update for the rezound is becoming more and more aggravating. I’ve had the rezound since December and the same post are still circulating. If Verizon doesn’t intend on updating the rezound..just say so and be done with it. Incredible 4G is a step back from the rezound (minus ICS) so I’m hoping Verizon’s not waiting to see how well the sales for the incredible 4G will be

  11. I’m sick of all these broken promises. Htc promised the upgrade in June or July. This firmware update is BADLY needed. Just make the update available for pull and issue any bug fixes needed. If the devs on xda can modify the code and I can view it using a file browser app on my phone then it shouldn’t be too hard. I know Verizon has low customer satisfaction and if they weren’t the only network that’s good in my area I’d drop them. Whoever is in charge of sending out and updating the phone software should be FIRED! All I ask is for Verizon to release the ICS update to the Rezound or at the very least release a solid date for the upgrade.

  12. Forget ICS now were looking at Jelly Bean time frame. By the time we get ICS everyone else will have been updated to Jelly Bean

  13. complain to the fcc. i did. here’s the link.

  14. It’s rolling out now. 7MB booster file followed by the 299MB 3.14.605.12 update. From what I’ve seen, it still comes complete with Developer Options in settings, so it kinda looks like we forced them into it.
