There was a time when the phablet category of the smartphone competition was fully dominated by the Samsung Galaxy Note II. This is not surprising at all given the fact that the second generation Samsung phablet and its predecessor are responsible for the inclusion of the category in the market. In fact, the original Samsung Galaxy Note is said to be the culprit for the rise of the term phablet – after all, the device is in fact an a cross between a phone and a tablet. Not only that, the device is also very powerful under the hood which helped it attract the attention of the smartphone-buying population.

Be that as it may, the Samsung Galaxy Note II may no longer be as dominant as it was once before especially that the HTC Droid DNA has already made its entrance in the phablet competition. The HTC phablet may not have a display as humongous as that of the 5.5-inch panel of the Samsung Galaxy Note II but the Droid DNA’s display has a much higher resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels. Not only that, the slightly smaller display slapped onto the front panel of the HTC device gives way to a smaller chassis for the handset, hence making it a whole lot more pocketable compared to the Samsung behemoth.

Because of the entry of the HTC Droid DNA in the phablet competition, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is said to have finally have met its match so it is really interesting how this match up between the two beasts turns out. But, if there is one attribute where the HTC Droid DNA gets the better of the Samsung Galaxy Note II, it would have to be the price point. Both devices are premium smartphones and as such command premium price tags as a result, but this is where the HTC Droid DNA squeaks by the Samsung Galaxy Note II.

As it stands, Verizon is now offering the HTC Droid DNA at a much cheaper price point and have already instructed its online retailers to slash the price of the HTC phablet. With this in play, a lot of our smartphone-crazed brethren will have a hard time ignoring this offer from Big Red. Of course, you will be required to sign a new two-year service agreement with the wireless provider should you decide to get your hands on the HTC Droid DNA at its heavily discounted price point.

As for the HTC Droid DNA, the HTC phablet packs a QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon S4 chipset under the hood which brings into play a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 2GB of RAM. The storage space of the handset comes up to 16GB but only 11 of these are set aside for user content. As for its display, the HTC Droid DNA sports a 5.0-inch SuperLCD 3 panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2.1MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
