foursquareappforwindowsMicrosoft held a BUILD event back in June of this year and it was there that the company made mention of bringing the Foursquare app to the Windows 8 software officially.  Some might think that Foursquare might not be as popular as it was five years ago, but according to the company, more than 35 million people use the app and now that it will be available on the Windows 8 software, it will be a winner for both companies.  Windows 8 does not have all that many top notch applications to talk about since Windows 8 was first released.

Now that Windows 8 is starting to gain some market share due to the inclusion of desktops and laptops, Microsoft is hoping that top tier applications pre-loaded on the software will help add to that market share.  Other quality applications are not popping up for the Windows 8 software as fast as Microsoft would want them to, so maybe this will help to draw more developers to the software.  According to reports, the Foursquare app for Windows 8 is very similar to that of other platforms.  User can browse their latest check-ins, places that have the most check-ins and then see a map of the check-ins.

The app works well with Windows 8 charms, like using the Search Charm, users will be able to search Foursquare for information about specific locations around the town they are currently in.  The search results show a picture of the location as well as other special offers and information about other users that have checked into that location via Foursquare.  Microsoft made a note that Foursquare was a first for Microsoft on Windows 8 were the app was mainly limited to smartphones up to this point.  The Foursquare experience will be an exclusive, pre-loaded app with Windows 8 software.

Microsoft is making moves over the last few months that will certainly position them in a good place as they try and take market share away from any company that is willing to give it up.  With the Windows Phone software installed on Nokia devices, the inclusion of Foursquare on Windows 8 and another major software update coming this year, Microsoft might have all of its things in order to start to make a climb closer to the top of the mobile food chain.

  1. Sloppy fail. Windows 8 article, showing Windows PHONE 8 picture.Windows 8 doesn’t need an app, it’s s a full blown OS, so an app’s presence or absence is one of taste.
