The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is definitely one of the better-performing handsets in the lineup of AT&T and is actually one of the first true 4G devices to be added on to the lineup of the wireless provider. Come to think of it, AT&T markets most of its devices as “4G” handsets but these usually are just 3G and HSPA+ handsets that are no match for a true 4G handset such as the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. The handset was added on to the lineup of the carrier last October but it wasn’t until November when it finally made it to the shelves of the wireless provider. Since then, it has become the handset of choice for AT&T subscribers who want to take advantage of the LTE network of the carrier.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket just recently got upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich a couple of weeks back but with the release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, users of the handset are bound to ask if they too will get the Android 4.1 refresh for their handsets. And more importantly, when will their handsets get a tasty treat of Jelly Bean?

Looking back, one of the pain points of the Android ecosystem is the long time involved in waiting for major updates to land. In fact, the international version of a handset will always get first dibs on a new update while the carrier-branded versions of the handset will have to wait much longer for the update to land. The reason is said to be the intensive testing process that these carrier-branded versions of the handset before the update gets approved by the manufacturer and Google.

Long waits have been a way of life now for Android users but users of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket are luckier. Word on the street is that Samsung could release the Android 4.1 refresh to the Samsung Galaxy S III as early as next while the Samsung Galaxy S II could be next in line. With this fast turnaround for these two handsets in getting Jelly Bean, it can only be expected that carrier-branded versions such as the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket could very well end up packing Jelly Bean under the hood before the year is out.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, the handset has a QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset under the hood and this SoC gives the smartphone a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and 1GB of RAM. The storage space of the handset comes up to 16GB but this can still be expanded using the handset’s dedicated memory expansion lot. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket also has that glorious SuperAMOLED Plus panel that measures 4.5 inches and has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Its dual-shooter configuration outfits the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket with a rear-facing 8MP camera capable of 1080p recording while a 2MP shooter for video calls and self-portraits.  You can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket starting at $79 at select online retailers.
