The official delivery of the latest Android operating system began on January 14, first heading out to those Soak Test Droid MAXX owners that helped Big Red test the new software. Below you can see Verizon’s official Android 4.4 announcement for the Droid MAXX smartphone.

“Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for the DROID MAXX and DROID ULTRA by MOTOROLA smartphones. With this upgrade you get the latest version of the Android OS (Android 4.4, KitKat) as well as new features, enhancements and bug fixes for your smartphone.”

The Motorola Moto X was one of the first devices to receive Android 4.4, getting the much-anticipated software ahead of even the Nexus 4. The Moto X similarity to the Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini led many to believe the software would be arriving shortly for those phones as well. That was the case, but because of the above-mentioned compatibility problems, the update was pulled. Verizon and Motorola have both stated that this operating system transfer should go smoothly, as extensive testing has been conducted on a substantial number of Motorola Droid Maxx handsets.

  1. Is there a source for this? I can’t find anything on Motorola’s website saying that the Droid Razr Maxxx will get kit kat. In fact, their website says the contrary: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/1949/action/auth#gs=eyJndWlkZUlEIjoxOTQ5LCJxdWVzdGlvbklEIjo2LCJyZXNwb25zZUlEIjoyNCwiZ3VpZGVTZXNzaW9uIjoiNHFtdFQxTGwiLCJzZXNzaW9uSUQiOiJ5UzV0VDFMbCJ9
