Users of the Motorola XOOM on the Verizon Wireless network should be right in the middle of their 4G LTE upgrade this week.  Verizon Wireless announced this week they would be offering the upgrade and gave step by step instructions on how to navigate through the process.  The company also announced the XOOM 4G LTE would be available in stores starting October 13th for about $500 with a new two-year contract.  If you are already signed up for Verizon Wireless email announcements, you should already have the announcement and should be on your way to upgrading your XOOM.

Verizon Wireless is recommending that you save and backup all your personal information before you send your tablet in for the upgrade.  The upgrade is free of charge to existing customers and customers can expect to get their tablets back in about six business days.  There are obvious benefits to upgrading to 4G LTE and the main one is the speed enhancements on one of the fastest networks in the United States.  Getting access to the faster speeds will allow users to download songs faster and stream music and television better, creating a better overall experience on the XOOM.

The 4G LTE upgrade will allow the XOOM to stay connected throughout the nation by connecting to Verizon Wireless 3G network if the tablet leaves the 4G LTE coverage areas.  Verizon Wireless claims that users will experience download speeds of 5MB to 12MB per second and 2MB to 5MB per second for upload speeds.  Customers on the Verizon Wireless network will have the option of choosing from three 4G LTE data plans which are $30 for 2GB per month, $50 for 5GB per month or $80 for 10GB per month.

The 4G LTE network is available in 143 markets throughout the country.  Verizon Wireless announced they would be expanding their 4G LTE networks in 26 additional cities, including San Francisco, Cleveland/Akron and Indianapolis.  Other companies that have towers in rural areas have also been working with Verizon to bring the 4G LTE network to those that do not live in the larger cities across the United States.

The Motorola XOOM is quite a popular tablet with a 10.1-inch screen with a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 32GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera on the back side and a 2MP camera in the front for video chatting.  Check it out at your local Verizon Wireless store or online.
