Verizon Wireless already has one of the largest mobile networks in the country and that includes the LTE coverage that they offer to millions of smartphone users.  The company announced half way through last year that they were done with their initial 4G LTE rollout and are now going to focus efforts on getting the LTE-Advanced rolled out to users.  This week, the company has been announced in a deal with Cincinnati Bell to buy the spectrum license from the company and other “related assets” for a tiny $210 million.

As soon as the deal closes, Cincinnati Bell will lease back from Verizon for about one year in order to help its customers switch over to Verizon’s CDMA network.  According to the CEO of Cincinnati Bell, Ted Torbeck the deal hinges on a couple of different things.  In a statement Torbeck said, “It has become economically challenging for us to invest in our wireless business at the levels necessary to deliver best-in-class service to our customers.”  Torbeck then went on to say that the deal would give consumers access to high-quality wireless service while at the same time Cincinnati Bell can focus on the demand for Fioptics products.

Cincinnati Bell was not the largest regional mobile carrier in the United States, but it will offer plenty of spectrum that reportedly covers more than 340,000 subscribers at the end of 2013.  The deal is big news for those on the Verizon Wireless network because the company has been working hard to get coverage to those in all areas of the country and this will only help the company hit areas that were not accessible before.  The deal is not final yet and is subject to approval from the FCC and others before it can close officially.  At this time, Verizon or Cincinnati Bell know when the deal is going to close.

Verizon Wireless has been named the largest and most reliable mobile network in the country more than one time and with news like this the company is moving to cover even more users throughout the country.  With more a network that covers more than 250 million Americans and a smartphone lineup that is top notch, the company is doing a very good job of making sure it stays right on the top of the pile of major mobile carriers in the United States.
