Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G Gets Discount Price Tag

Even though the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone was officially announced on October 21 last year, the internet Blogosphere had already been alerted to its upcoming release. It was finally launched on December 15 of last year on the 4G LTE network of Verizon Wireless in the US, and recently got a substantial price reduction down to bargain bin levels. Online wireless retailer Wirefly has dropped the on contract price of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G to around $29, a price generally reserved for phones with fewer features and lower performance levels.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is available at a reduced price point at select online retailers now starting at 29.99.

And even though the handset has been out almost a year already, the high-resolution, large screen size, processor speed and feature set continue to rank among the tops in the smartphone marketplace. One of the first smartphones to offer Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless support out-of-the-box, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G received an over the air update to the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system last month. That makes the Galaxy Nexus 4G the first Verizon handset to get the Jelly Bean transfer OTA.

The Galaxy Nexus 4G was also the first phone to deliver Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, and still retains its bestselling flagship status at Verizon. With simultaneous voice and data access, the Galaxy Nexus allows its user to surf the web or check email while in the middle of a voice call. The 4G LTE Verizon system delivers consistent download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps while in Verizon 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage zones.

Thin at only 0.37 inches (9.47 mm), the Galaxy Nexus is slightly heavier than the average 4G smartphone at 5.29 ounces (150 g). The 4.65 inch display offers a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, rendered at 316 pixels per inch, and 16 million colors are used to create visuals. The 1,850 mA battery on board the Galaxy Nexus 4G delivers approximately 50% more talk time than the typical 4G smartphone battery, offering 12.0 hours of talk time from a single charge. An OMAP 4460 Texas Instruments microchip package includes a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor and PowerVR SGX540GPU GPU.

1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and the handset delivers 32 GB of built-in data storage. A front facing VGA quality chat cam joins a rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder in the camera combo, and that rear device comes equipped with an LED flash, offering autofocus, white balance, a panorama mode and special effects package. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution, and YouTube and Picasa applications have been pre-installed.
