As of the moment, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this was unveiled a couple of months back at Google I/O. During that time, several manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC and ASUS already went ahead and announced that several devices in their respective lineups will get the Android 4.1 refresh. This early, we already saw Samsung rollout the Jelly Bean update to the Samsung Galaxy S III in Poland while ASUS has began update its Transformer Prime tablet. Sad to say, there are still a couple of tablets that are waiting for their chance to get cranked up to Ice Cream Sandwich.

However, if you rock a Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 from Verizon, your months of waiting for your tablet to finally get a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is about to end. After all, the Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1 already received the update as early as August which left users of the slightly-smaller Motorola tablet wondering as to when ICS will land on their devices.

The months of wondering and waiting has mercifully come to an end.

That’s correct, folks. It is now official – Verizon is, as of the moment, already rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2. The update is being unleashed via the usual OTA manner so if you haven’t gotten the notification that lets you know of the update’s availability on your slate, you can also manually initiate the update process by going to Settings > About tablet > System updates.

The ICS update for the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 weighs in at about 299.2 MB and download should take approximately 20 – 30 minutes so ensure that you are using a Wi-Fi connection when downloading the update itself. The update brings features associated with ICS to the tablet but aside from that, it will also come with goodies and treats in tow such as data usage monitor, better multitasking, direct access lockscreen and the ability to create folders on the slate. The update also includes updated USB drivers, updated corporate email client, enhanced network connectivity and faster web browsing. Sad to say, this will be the last major update slated to land on the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 as Motorola is not expected to crank it up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Despite that, the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 is still one capable slate. Its circuitry is built around the tablet’s Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset which essentially gives it a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. It also comes with 16GB of built-in memory but sad to say, there is no option for memory expansion of the Verizon. In terms of its display, the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 sports an 8.2-inch HD-IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels while its camera department features a rear 5MP shooter and a front-facing 1.3MP camera for video calls and self-portraits.
