Those who are looking to buy the new iPhone once it releases might want to keep a reminder on their schedules that September 21st is going to be the date. Apple is expected to announce the new device on September 12th and it was rumored that it will be available on the market around a week later so 21st seems a reasonable date. This is also going to be the start date of the Verizon Wireless vacation blackout that is going to last till the 30th of the month implying that there is every possibility that the date is indeed right.

The news comes from a Verizon employee who mentioned about the blackout date and the whole situation fits in well with Appleā€™s trend of releasing a new phone every year. While it has not yet been a year since the release of the iPhone 4S, the time is ripe for unveiling a new device as Apple is already seeing its sales fall either to competition or because of customers expecting a new version. The new iPhone is expected to have a larger screen, a more powerful processor and even a new dock connector. Apple has been quiet about this so far but it will do the company good if it can confirm the various rumors about features surrounding the iPhone.

Meanwhile, Verizon is also making news with another platform as it is planning on offering Nokia phones with Windows Phone 8. This could be the kickstart that is needed for both Nokia and Microsoft as the former is trying to get back into the smartphone market and the latter tries to get a foothold in the mobile operating system segment. According to Bloomberg, Verizon is planning to sell at least one smartphone this year and that is very significant for Microsoft as Verizon happens to be the largest wireless carrier in the United States.

The smartphone market is heavily dependent on the carriers as well and the company with the best relations is definitely going to have a good time. Slashing the current Lumia prices might not have benefited Nokia a lot but the new platform holds a lot of promise. In addition, if Verizon goes ahead and launches the device, other carriers might see it as a green signal and get devices of their own, giving a good boost to the overall sales of the platform.
