Apple has started an avalanche of tablets on the market. The next new company to produce one is called Huawei. They are known for their modems more than for their tablets, but this one is going to be running the ubiquitous android mobile operating system.

Huawei is making sure they do not get left out of the tablet races. They are creating a tablet to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Blackberry Playbook. It is a gadget that looks like an Apple product at first glance. The upcoming tablet is going to be called the MediaPad. It has been examined already by a few select people and it seems to be an average unit. It is capable of logging into cell networks, so with its bluetooth feature is going to be capable of making phone calls, like its Samsung competition.

Huawei is a major company in China but not known much in other parts of the world. They are the largest supplier of phone and network equipment in China. Nevertheless Huawei makes 65 percent of their revenue from places other than China. The MediaPad is their second attempt at putting a touch screen tablet on the market. It will complement their sales of 3G dongles.

The crafstmanship of the MediaPad is reminiscent of an iPad or iPhone. The back has aluminum and the front is devoid of physical buttons. There are contact buttons lining the bottom of the tablet. The resolution is reported to be disappointing. For a seven inch screen it has 1024 by 600 pixels of clarity. This is the same as the older Samsung Galaxy Tab from last year. On a good note the screen is an IPS display. This means it can be viewed well from different angles.

The hardware running the Huawei tablet is slightly more powerful than some older tablets. It will have a dual core 1.5 gigahertz processor or the popular dual core Nvidia processor that runs at 1.2 gigahertz. This will allow the tablet to have a more powerful high definition output than last year’s devices. It can output video in 1080p format. Accompanying this feature is an HDMI connector. There is no word on DLNA.

The Huawei MediaPad is light and savvy, weighing only .86 pounds and being just 10.5 millimeters ( .41 inch ) thick. It has two cameras, one on the back and one on the front. The rear camera is the typical five megapixel variety without a flash. The front is 1.3 megapixels in power. It will be running android in an updated 3.2 version of Honeycomb. There are no announcements on the price, but this tablet will be available by the end of the year.
