If you happen to have T-Mobile for your wireless provider of choice and rock a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 from the Magenta carrier, chances are you have been waiting for the carrier to start the rollout of ICS so your device can finally get its tasty treat of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. After an extremely long wait, you are your tablet can now have the chance to join the ICS party because T-Mobile has already started the ICS rollout for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The support documents for the ICS update of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now posted in the official support site of the Magenta carrier and it confirms that the update is only available through Samsung Kies. This simply means that users of the tablet can only take advantage of the update by hooking up their Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to their computer via USB. Once that is done, you can already fire up the Samsung Kies software to upload Ice Cream Sandwich on your tablet.
Although T-Mobile’s support site explicitly says that the ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will NOT be rolled out via OTA but apparently, there are reports coming in that several users of the tablet managed to give their tablets a taste of ICS via OTA. Because of this, you might also want to check your tablet every once in a while to see if there is a notification waiting for you. Another option you have is to force the tablet to manually check and install the ICS update by going to the About section in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1’s Settings.
The software version of Ice Cream Sandwich is T859UVLH6 and will bring the usual goodies and treats associated with ICS to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. These goodies include an improved browser, a new user interface and Face Unlock among others. This update by the way is also required if you still want to take advantage of Samsung’s Media Hub. The Magenta carrier also confirmed that installing the ICS update on the tablet will wipe out the Home Screen layout of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
As for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the tablet is no longer a spring chicken but its resume is still impressive to say the least. Its circuitry revolves around an NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 chipset which brings to the device a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. The tablet comes with a storage space pegged at 16GB while its display is a 10.1-inch PLS TFT panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.
