Sprint and Google have already confirmed that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Nexus S 4G is already being pushed to the handset and the rollout started last night. The rollout is being done via OTA so a notification should show up on your handset to let you know that the ICS update is already available for downloading and installation on your device. Should you have no patience left in waiting for the notification to show itself, you always have the option to manually check for the updates. The rollout will be staggered with the update getting pushed to handsets over a 21-day period.

The ICS update for the Samsung Nexus S 4G should have gone out as early as December last year but after a lot of users who took advantage of the initial rollout of the update complained about their handsets crashing and freezing, Google and Sprint decided to pull the update for further fixing. Now, some three months later, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich update for the Samsung Nexus S 4G is as perfect as it can be. Once applied to the handset, the Samsung Nexus S 4G will get cranked up to android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and its software version will be brought to IMM76D.

Of course, the update will also bring other goodies and treats to the handset aside from the ICS-specific features such as Face Unlock and these treats and goodies are customization of the Favorites tray, and  improved integration of the People app with Google+, Email, Gmail and other apps.  You’ll also see enhanced multitasking feature on the handset, creation of folders on the home screen of the Samsung Nexus S 4G, the addition of a new lock screen that lets users go directly to the Camera app or check the Notifications without having to unlock the handset, and enhanced data usage controls to enable users the efficient managing and monitoring of network data usage.  We noticed improvements in the Camera app of the handset such as decreased shot to shot speed, stabilized image zoom, zero shutter lag exposure, continuous autofocus, and panoramic photos, and Android Beam.

Despite the fact that the one-time Google flagship device of yesteryears is no longer a spring chicken, it has become relevant again with the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Not only that, the update to the latest version of the Android mobile operating system ought to give the Samsung Nexus S 4G a new lease on life.  Buy the Samsung Nexus S 4G starting at just one penny!
