Since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was released by Verizon late last year to coincide with the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the handset immediately became one of the hottest selling handsets in the Android lineup of the wireless provider. Sprint on the other hand has made known its plans of adding the current Google flagship to its lineup but until now, we yet to see the handset hitting the shelves of the carrier.

In the past, there were several instances that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is about to get released by Sprint and make its debut in the shelves of the carrier but nothing came out of these rumors. It has been an open secret that the wireless provider has big plans for the handset but Sprint has been pretty mum as to when it will finally unleash the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Previous rumors point to April 15 as the pegged date but as of yet, there has been no confirmation from Sprint regarding the veracity of that statement.

This gets changed today as Sprint subscribers are about to see the handset sooner than expected. Although no official released date has been confirmed for the device, a leaked document recently surfaced and nails April 22 as the date that the Sprint variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will finally break its cover and head to the shelves. The Sprint version of the handset is a veritable doppelganger to the one released Verizon but Sprint’s variant will have support for Google wallet come launch date. In addition to that, the processor of the Sprint variant will have a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, a substantial 300 MHz increase over that of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus. And though the chances of hearing anything about its overall plans for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus at the event it has with HTC this Wednesday, we might be able to gather a few nuggets of information about the handset as Sprint is expected to discuss its far-reaching LTE plan in the event. And while waiting if the rumors will pan out, we have the specs sheet of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus below to give you an idea of the power it packs.

The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus reached official status when it was announced by the wireless provider last January but until now, its release date is yet to be confirmed. It packs a Texas Instruments OMAP4460 chipset in its internals and this SoC brings a beefed-up 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor to the handset. Paired with the processor is a full gigabyte of RAM so a smooth operation is already a given while its non-expandable internal storage is pegged at 32GB. The curved display of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus measures 4.65 inches and is of the SuperAMOLED variety and its resolution is pegged at 720 x 1280 pixels. The camera department of the handset is the culprit for its slightly-less-than stellar standing with its below par 5MP rear shooter and 1.3MP front-facer, shooters that are more apt in a midrange device and not in a Google flagship handset.  Buy the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G starting at $99.
