Ever since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone debuted on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network last December 15, Verizon’s 4G LTE network has been the exclusive home of the high flying Samsung device. However, just recently, Sprint released the same Galaxy Nexus on their 4G network, and Verizon immediately dropped the price of their Galaxy Nexus smartphone to $49 on contract with a new activation, to protect their market share on their flagship handset. Sprint has responded by lowering their retail price to the same $49 at select retailers on contract with new activation, and the handsets are technically identical in every regard.

The latest Android 4.0.4 update has been released to Galaxy Nexus 4G smartphones, and though the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is full of high-end hardware, the handset is still thinner than almost all smartphone offerings, at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm). What is certainly not average is the size of the screen, and at 4.65 inches that Super AMOLED display is one of the largest found on any smartphone.

The extremely high resolution 316 pixels per inch pixel density gives the display an overall resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, both of those designations lying at the upper range of the smartphone marketplace. Displays are rendered in an incredible 16 million colors, and standard light and proximity sensors are built in.

Talk time from the 1,850 mA battery runs approximately 12.0 hours from a single charge, and a full 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. The Sprint Galaxy Nexus leads all smart phones in out-of-the-box, built-in storage, at 32 GB. A Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package powers the handset, and that includes a graphics specific PowerVR SGX540 chip and dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor.

The camcorder on board the Sprint Galaxy Nexus is 5.0 megapixels, comes equipped with an LED flash, and offers geo-tagging, panorama shot taking capability, special effects mode, autofocus and white balance features. That rear snapper provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second. A front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam is also on board, and that camera also offers video call support and portrait snapshot capability.

The Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone also delivers Near Field Communication (NFC) support out-of-the-box. Google integration runs complete on this ICS delivering handset with Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Picasa preloaded and ready for use out-of-the-box.  Buy the Samsun Galaxy Nexus starting at $49.
