Back in July, South Korean based smartphone manufacturer Samsung hinted that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S lines of smartphones would be the first to experience the new yummy sounding Jelly Bean Android operating system in an over the air update. Without naming any launch dates, the proclamation by Samsung was very vague to say the least. However, the Galaxy S III which is available in the United States from Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T is presently undergoing testing for its Jelly Bean firmware according to Samsung. A Samsung spokesperson stated that a third quarter release is the time that company is aiming for to send Jelly Bean 4.1 to all Samsung Galaxy S III smartphones. As is usually the case, no hard dates were given, but there have been many unofficial Jelly Bean 4.1 builds online, and that usually predicates an official release.

The Galaxy S III has been an incredibly popular phone for Android smartphone shoppers, and when you consider it passed its chief executive operator’s lofty sales predictions while it’s availability was hampered by Apple lawsuits, the numbers are even more impressive. Samsung’s CEO and President of Information Technology and the Mobile Communication Division Shin Jong-kyun predicted in June that global sales of the Galaxy S III would hit 10 million units by the end of July. It appears from several analyst’s sales estimates, as well as Samsung’s own tallying, that worldwide sales of the Galaxy S III actually surpassed 10 million units well before the end of July.

That works out to roughly 190,000 Galaxy S III smartphones sold each day since that handset was released. Sales of the Android smartphone that is in such high demand were actually curtailed for a short period of time due to the Apple lawsuit, and Sprint actually announced that “overwhelming demand” had caused that wireless carrier to put off the GS III’s June 21 launch date. After that first two months of strong sales support, the handset has continued to dominate the 4G smartphone marketplace, delivering the most RAM system memory built-in to any current smartphone, as well as Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box.

Near Field Communications (NFC) support is also present, and the handset is ultra-slim at 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) in thickness. The display runs 4.80 inches and offers a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. 16 GB of storage are built-in, and a microSD slot provides storage expansion. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder captures video at 1,080P HD resolution, and provides simultaneous HD video and image capture. The handset is powered by a speedy dual core 1.5 GHz CPU, and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board.  The price of the Samsung Galaxy S III has been reduced at select online retailers.  While we are not allowed to advertise the new reduced price tags on the Samsung superphone, we can tell you its worth checking out!  View the reduced price of the Samsung Galaxy S III here.
